Welcome to the Public Library Erlangen

People from many different countries and cultures live together in Erlangen. The public library (called Stadtbibliothek Erlangen) has an attractive offer for everybody.

Membership

The use of our collections is free if used inside the library, a library card is not needed.  

If you want to borrow items, you will need to apply for a library card. 

For an application you will need to bring a valid identity card or passport in connection with a current registration certificate for three months.

The library card is not transferable. The signature of parent or guardian is required for those under the age of 16.

Students over 18 years, unemployed persons, apprentices, persons receiving income support

Reservation and renewal online

You can use the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to reserve items or extend the loan period of items you have borrowed. 

To access your account, please use the number on your library card and your date of birth (dd.mm.yyyy) as your password.

Reservations

Library items marked by a “nicht verfügbar” in the catalogue can be reserved. The charge per item is 1,00 €.

Overdue charges

Overdue fines are payable upon return of the items even without prior notice.

DVDs/Blu-rays  (except for documentaries)

All other items  € 0,10/per day

Using the Internet

The library has several computers for browsing the internet. You need to be a member to use this service.

We offer free WiFi to all visitors.

Opening hours

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday    from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Saturday                              from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Wednesday and Sunday the library is closed.
